Wedding photography is the art and practice of capturing images documenting the events and emotions of a couple’s wedding day. It typically involves taking photographs of the bride and groom and their family and friends throughout the wedding day. Ohio wedding videographers often give you the same tips for your big day. There’s something so beautiful about capturing the love of two people who are about to tie the knot, but also very exciting because it’s like doing an actual photo shoot all over again! Engagement photographers in Columbus, Ohio, are often asked about the time and consideration it takes to do a shoot. Here, I’ll share some tips on how you can be fully prepared for your shoot:
BE PREPARED
- Be prepared to be there for a long time. Engagement shoots can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on how far you want to travel and what type of location you’re shooting in. It’s best to arrive with plenty of water and snacks, so neither you nor your photographer gets dehydrated during the shoot!
- Bring your camera (or smartphone), laptop/tablet/mobile device if you want to show off your photos on social media right after they’re taken!
- Bring your favorite music if it helps set the mood for some shots — remember, only some people share the same taste in tunes!
BRING ALONG YOUR ITEMS AND FAVORITES
- Bring along a favorite item that represents you and your partner.
- Bring along a favorite item that represents your relationship.
- Bring along a favorite item that represents your shared interests.
- Bring a favorite item representing your shared values, such as family photos or children’s artwork (if applicable).
DRESS ACCORDING TO THE SEASON AND LOCATION
- Dress according to the season. If you’re shooting in winter, it’s important to dress warmly and appropriately. If you’re shooting in spring or summer weather, make sure your outfit reflects that by wearing lightweight fabrics that won’t make you sweat too much when the sun comes out!
- Dress according to location. The location of your shoot will determine what sort of clothes are appropriate–for example, if it’s outside, then jeans may not be a good choice because they’ll get dirty quickly (and no one wants their pictures ruined by stains). My recommendation is to bring along some extra outfits during our session together in case one gets messed up somehow, especially if we cannot find any other nearby location for the shoot.
HAVE FUN!
- Be yourself. An engagement shoot aims to show the real you and your partner, so don’t try to be someone else. Don’t try to be someone else in front of the camera either–it will only come across as fake and forced, which is not what we want for our clients!
- Enjoy the experience. Engagement shoots are supposed to be fun; if you’re feeling stressed out or nervous about it, chances are that will show in your photos (and no one wants that). So take a deep breath and remember why we’re here: we love photography!
- Let your personality shine through on camera by doing something silly or making faces at each other while posing together–this helps ensure that when people see these images later on down the road, they’ll know exactly who was involved in making them happen!
Much preparation goes into the shoot, but it’s worth it
The first thing to consider is what you’re going to wear. You want to look your best, so make sure that you choose an outfit that flatters your body type and makes the most of your features. This doesn’t mean going all out; a simple dress or blouse will do just fine! Next, gather all the things that could be useful during the shoot. These include:
- A change of clothes (in case they get dirty)
- Hair products (to make sure everyone looks their best)
- Makeup (if desired)
